Enamel Mesh Bags with distinctive Art Deco allure.

A00711: Fabulous Art Deco Dresden Mesh bag marked “Germany” in incised letters on the frame. This is a rare geometric example of a Dresden mesh bag. The geometry is accentuated by the outstanding Van Dyke fringe is quintessential Art Deco. The frame latches with a pair of red Bakelite trimmed cylinders. The bag is unlined. There are three tiny gaps on one side of the bag, each missing a single link. The mesh of the areas under the hinges, so commonly damaged in these bags, is in excellent condition. Very slight enamel wear near the latch and hinges. A MUST HAVE for the serious collector. Measures 4 1/2 x 7”. SOLD for $230 in 2002 at The Bag Lady Emporium

Dresden Mesh bags

990708: A flamboyant Floral Dresden mesh Bag ca. 1930, marked "Germany" in incised letters on the interior frame. Jaunty multicolored flowers contrast dynamically with the green background. The gold frame is engraved in tiny roses and leaves. Gold satin lining is present, but its condition is fragile with fraying, stains and soiling. It could be replaced, but since it's original, I have mixed feelings. The enameling and mesh are in excellent condition with no apparent loss of either. Measures a petite 4 1/4" x 6". C00182: Magnificent Dresden mesh floral evening bag was made in Germany c. 1930. The unusual color scheme includes greenish gray background, Fuchsia flowers with yellow centers, grass green leaves. The original chartreuse lining is present and in excellent condition. The gold metal frame is marked "Made in Germany" in incised lettering. Excellent condition in every respect. Metal Mesh in Art Deco styles 1920’s style metal mesh 800 silver marked ALPACA and German Silver Marks on metal mesh bags

980568: Marked Germany Alpaca (800 silver) metal mesh reticule with 20’s style "Over-the-Wrist" silver mesh handle with double sliders. Clasp is adorned with tiny cone-shaped sapphires. The cathedral frame is engraved with "comma" shaped design. In excellent condition except for 3 or 4 tiny inconsistencies or gaps on one side. Lovely little tassel trim.. Measures 3 x 8 1/4" with 12" long handle. SOLD for $175 in 2000 at The Bag Lady Emporium

C00061: Fascinating German silver metal mesh bag is a work of metal with a feel referential to fabric. The detailing on the body and fringe looks for the world like crochet in wire. The detailing on the wide silver frame is quite in the Art Nouveau style. The bag is unlined. The large spherical hasp opens to the spacious interior. There is no gaping under the hinges or gasps in the chain so often seen in these bags. The frame is "G. silver" in incised letters indicating an 800 silver content. It's a spectacular bag that would enhance any collection. Measures 6 x 7 3/4 inches. SOLD for $150 in 2004 at The Bag Lady Emporium

970780: Marked Sterling 925 Germany 21, this magnificent Dresden enamel bag is flawless. The handle style points to a date around 1922. Stylish abstract bargello-type pattern. Measures 3 3/4 x 6 1/2" plus 6 1/2 wrist chain with slide. A rare jewel! SOLD $280 in 1998 at The Bag Lady Emporium

Between 1945 and 1947, bags were manufactured noting the occupied sector of Germany in which they were produced. In 1947, The US and Britain combined their areas into the "Bizone." The French joined in 1949, becoming the "Trizone." Bags marked "Made in West Germany" date between may 1949 and October 1990.

C00273: Delill West Germany floral tapestry evening bag glistens with interwoven gold threads throughout the fabric. The gold frame is embellished at the top with a scalloped floral trim. The interior is fully lined in gray taffeta with a single open pocket. The bag’s only flaw is a single ¼” x 1/2” discoloration on one side (see detail.) Measures 7 x 1 x 5 ½”. D00103: Contemplate the mystical beauty of this brown leather and woven rice paper handbag. While the oriental look would point to a Far Eastern origin, research has shown this unusual bag was made in West Germany in the 60's. The fragile one-inch wide rice paper strips are meticulously sewn to a backing material, producing a sturdy fabric. The shiny gold lift up latch opens to a leather-lined interior with two gold-corded open pockets and one expanding metal zip pocket. The lining shows some abrasion and two stains, one inside a pocket, the other at the very bottom of the bag. Measures 9 1/4 x 3 x 10 3/4 inches with a 14-inch handle.
