H. Galek Assumes Showroom. Duties

"Because he believes that a bag manufacturer should be in a position to give his accounts exactly what they need rather than what he chooses to make, Hilel Galek, founder of Galek Handbag Co., is now spending most of his time in the showroom where he can come in contact with his accounts and work out their problems with them.

In the past Mr. Galek secluded himself in his Bronx factory, keeping his eye on production and his operating costs low in order to give best possible values. Now that two of his sons are well trained along these lines, he feels that he can broaden his own contacts.
Hilel Galek began his handbag career in Paris in 1923. He designed and manufactured fine bags there until he came to America in 1927. In 1928 Mr. Galek decided he would apply his knowledge to popular - priced handbags. Accordingly, he opened a plant off the beaten path where rents were low and began making low-priced calf bags. His $2.95 retailers will be remembered by all the old-timers in the bag business.
In his new role, Mr. Galek hopes to create for his accounts the best possible calf bags designed to their specifications and at the most advantageous price based on low overhead and 26 years of "know how."" "Handbag Buyer" June 1949, page 48
