Location June 1949: Castle Purses "Handbag Buyer" June 1949 showed the early Fall 1949 bags to be featured in department store promotions, page 24. This bag was designed to retail at $5 by Castle Purses. That's equivalent to $38 in inflation adjusted 2006 dollars. "Skinner's satin inside and out is feature of sleek satchel bag with gleaming lucite and metal lock. Lining available in luscious red or black. And it's very price conscious." The same June 1949 issue includes Castle Purse's display ad on page 36. The "What's New in Handbags" column of the same issue included news about Castle Purses' Fall 1949 line. These styles retailed for $5.
