Outstanding Art Deco Black Leather handbag ca. 1920. The linear detailing of the body of the bag and the silver and black enamel latch trim offsets the embossed floral designs on the envelope flap. The vertically detailed leather back forms a large open pocket (see detail.) The belt style latch closes with a snap that is engraved "Fulco Providence RI." Fulco manufactured jewelry and bag hardware for the Newport trade in the early 20th century. The interior of the bag is meticulously fashioned with two fitted sleeves on the front, one housing a leather framed vintage mirror of venerable age, the other a petite suede lined black leather coin purse. Behind these slots is a large open pocket, a lift-up latching center section with an even larger open section behind. The bag is unmarked as to maker.
