Art Deco style Judith Leiber convertible clutch. The April in 1990 issue of Connoisseur page 93 quotes Ira Neimark, CEO of Bergdorf Goodman “She’s most likely the leading quality handbag designer in the world, but more than that, she’s the last of the greats.” A bag in this style is illustrated on page 72 of “The Artful Handbag” by Enid Nemy. The matte satin body is appliquéd in silver and gold leather, black suede, black patent leather, black snake, and copper leather. Circa 1973. Different designs front and back (see detail.) The 30 in. long gold chain is completely removable if you desire. Very slight wear on the satin and one dimple on the silver appliquéd. The push-up latch opens to a beautifully designed black satin interior, with numerous open pockets, and one plastic zip pocket. The center open section has several light discolored area, but generally the bag is a knockout! The defects are insignificant. Marked with the gold metal Judith Leiber logo tag inside. Measures 11 1/2 by 1 1/4 by 4 1/2. This is an outstanding collectible bag! So rare! This item was part of the archives of the Bag Lady Emporium, originally in operation from 1996 through 2022 (Inventory ID A00201). It sold for $225.00 in 2005. |
