This unused Dorset Fifth Avenue compact was a party favor at the University of Detroit High School Prom in 1958 and is inscribed as such on the bottom. This is especially fascinating as Dorset and Rex Fifth Avenue merged in 1951 to form Dorset-Rex and Dorset discontinued production under its own name. I suspect these compacts, or at least the puffs, were purchased at a discount by the high school as a result. The body of the compact is scalloped and feels graceful in the hand. The lid is embellished with a pearl trimmed medallion. A mushroom latch presses in to open. The original unused puff and powder sifter are present as is the white liner paper in the bottom of the powder compartment. The adhesive mounted mirror shows minute edge wear but no spotting. Outstanding condition. Measures 3" in diameter and 7/8" deep. This item was part of the archives of the Bag Lady Emporium, originally in operation from 1996 through 2022 (Inventory ID C00132). ![]() Related Pages: DorsetProducts |
