Black faille is at its very best in this Lucite embellished clutch bag ca. 1942. The style with the small frame and large pouch-like wings was a reaction to metal restrictions in place after Pearl Harbor and provided a larger bag with very little metal used. There is no maker’s mark, but it is beautifully made. Gathered sections on either end flank three vertical panels on the front. A center back strap makes this a great bag for dancing. The Lucite bar splits in the center to reveal a spotless black satin interior with two open pockets and a matching satin coin purse, attached to the lining by a safety cord. The bag is in superb condition, with only slight darkening of the metal trim to indicate its rich history. Measures 11 x 6 x 3”.

This item was part of the archives of the Bag Lady Emporium, originally in operation from 1996 through 2022 (Inventory ID A00691). It sold for $85.00 in 2006.
